"The
Mid-Columbia Gorge is unique in many ways but one of
the little known ways is the abundance of Oregon White
Oak trees. These trees are treasures because they provide
habitat for many birds, mammals and under-story plants.
Among the species totally dependent on the mixed oak
forest are the Western Gray squirrel, Acorn woodpecker
and the White-breasted nuthatch. Black bear, Black-tailed
deer and Wild turkeys also use the acorns for food and
many creatures use the trees' cavities for nesting.
In fact 200 species are associated with the oak forest
habitat.
I
too am dependent on oak forest- for happiness and peace
and find never ending fascination in its beauty. In
this Screen Saver I have tried to capture its essence
and want to share it with you. May it bring you joy
and peace too."
