The purpose of the book is three fold:

1. 1. To provide drawings that may inspire you to create your own images
   from historical material.
2. 2. To expose you to colorful passages found in Oregon Trail Journals.
   3. To help clarify misconceptions about Native Americans living in
   areas along the Oregon Trail.

   Everyone is aware of the fighting that occasionally took place between
   Native Americans and emigrants. Few are aware that emigrants at times
   depended on Native Americans for food, clothing and horses and for
   services such as fording rivers and transporting them through difficult
   portions of their journey.
